Absolutely, I know a few of those fans, they are absolutely disgusting, and usually don’t want to share ANYTHING pertaining to her, they think they own her, it’s pathetic really, she was of the world, and she knew that, which is the most important thing, she was so smart, so intuitive, she knew how people saw her and what they wanted and how to give it to them. I don’t think she even hated the press that much either, she did but then she never knew anything else, the spotlight was all she ever knew.
Exactly, but you still have the Tumblr police and other idiots protesting when anyone calls her Liz, it’s quite pathetic to be honest.
I haven’t read the book but it’s a good question. She said several times that she hated being called Liz, but those were specific quotes given in a specific time to certain people that MORONS today take them as being the entire summation of her whole being. The truth of the matter is that, Mike called her Liz all the time, he named his plane after her and called it The Liz, not the Elizabeth, Burton called her Liz all the time, fans and reporters did, and everytime she was on a prestigious magazine on authorized stories, it was always Liz on the cover, never Elizabeth. It would have been a very miserable existence for her if she actually did hate the nickname, and the truth of the matter is that she didn’t. She understood it for what it is. She was always Liz for the world and her fans, and Liz was what they wanted and Liz was what she gave. The only people that don’t understand it are “fans” that don’t get it. She got it.
When the internet came, she sued to get ownership of the domain LizTaylor.com and her argument in court was that Liz Taylor was the name most associated with her person, and she won.
When she was asked in an interview what she wanted in her tombstone she said “Here lies Liz. She lived. Wait, I hate that name. Here lies Elizabeth. She lived”, but what did she say first? What was the first thing that came to her mind? Not her own name.
So who cares, she didn’t, and you can call her however you want, Liz Taylor will always sound better and more iconic, it has a flow that Elizabeth Taylor doesn’t, and only idiot fans get bothered by “Liz”.
LIZ AND THE MAN THAT RUINED CLEOPATRA, I KNOW I HAVE DEFENDED JOSEPH L. MANKIEWICZ BEFORE BUT THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT, IF THE MOVIE IS BARELY WATCHABLE TODAY IT IS BECAUSE OF HIM.
HOW CAN YOU TAKE THE GREATEST LOVE STORY IN THE WORLD AND MAKE AN ENTIRELY SOPORIFIC MOVIE? HOW?
